KITCHEN RENOVATION

Gilmerton Ave

An oversized space that needed to facilitate flow between a sunken living room on one end and an enclosed porch on the other, this kitchen was a unique challenge that NB Construction was ready to solve. The key to unifying the spaces lay in creating the kitchen’s unusually shaped island, that carries both the eye and the traffic from room to room. White marble counters and custom-built cabinetry finished in white lacquer — including some glassfront cabinets and open shelving — keep things light and airy in this area with little direct sun.

The multi-functional island, stained dove grey to pair with the stainless appliances and subway tile backsplash, is not just a focal point. Located directly opposite the stove, it’s an ideal work space with its hammered metal vegetable sink. There’s also storage in the lower cabinets and room for up to three counter stools. A bar area in the hallway featuring wine storage and a glass-front display cabinet for barware connects the kitchen with the living room, and showcases more of the extensive woodwork, cabinetry and flooring that 24 crafted in this home.
